Week Four: Mesopotamia

This song has received the distinction of “Almost Didn’t Get A Song Done This Week”. Who knows why this song, with it’s catchy 80′s dance beat and ridiculous lyrics, was so difficult to pull off. Since there was no readily available MIDI version online, it had to be arranged from scratch. The Pro Tools rig presented some problems, which unfortunatlely cannot be explained by Mercury being in retrograde; that won’t happen this year until March 30. Then there was the matter of trying to make the song sound “right” without using a guitar.

An interesting side note: The original B-52′s track was produced by Talking Head’s David Byrne. Mesopotamia was supposed to be the title track of a full-length album, but due to “production disagreements”, they stopped production early and released what they had as an EP.

I guess you could say that the B52′s “laid down the law”. Maybe, for David Byrne, it had begun to “stop making sense”. And so forth.

Week Five Teaser: It packs rich tobacco, specially selected and specially processed for good flavor.

I can’t believe I’m late commenting on this one. It’s awesome! You guys outdid yourself. You should have been involved in the original project–maybe that drama could have been avoided!!!! Super great, I’m only sad that this likely means no other B-52s tracks for the year. I hope I’m wrong!!!!

Oh. My. God. What took me so long to go to your site. Do Rock Lobster! Do Rock Lobster!

  3. CG80 says:

I was wondering how you pulled this off without laughing hysterically? I’ve been watching Miami Vice reruns all winter and this would definately fit into Crockett & Tubbs making a drug bust on the South Beach! Well done. Your best work yet.

  4. hugh says:

I figured you guys would do a B 52s track at some point. I had no trouble imagining your voices inserted for theirs, but Norm you’re a dead ringer for that dude! How did you do that?

  5. The Ashmaster says:

Haha! Emma loves these guys. Way to choose one of their more obscure tracks. If you chose Love Shack… I’d have to fire you.

    sounds awsome
