Week Sixteen: Don’t You Want Me

This song is another one to add to the list of “songs we didn’t know were not as likable as we originally thought until we read the lyrics”. With disturbing lines such as, “Don’t forget it’s me who put you where you are now, and I can put you back down too” and “You’d better change it back or we will both be sorry”, I certainly wouldn’t want you anymore either. Regardless, even I can’t resist the oh so 80′s sound with repetitive, sing-a-longable chorus.  You win, Human League.

The 80′s was the Golden Age of MIDI, so MIDI files like the one we found (sequenced by one Dr Kram Ruoflab?!) really lend themselves well to the robotic drum sounds and cheesy synth sensibility of a New Wave song like this.  The British charm (or lack thereof) is all us, though.

Totally perfect! I love the lyrics of this song. They are so surprising and awful!

I want to see a video of Norm New Wave dancing! Love you guys!

Norm is more of a step-touch kind of fella–we’ll have to work on a song while you guys are here and maybe you can show him some of your moves.
