You are a tricky devil Freddie Mercury, what with your 7 part harmonies and 4 octave range…

This song was not easy. Some sections of our version contain no less than 14 vocal tracks. That’s a fact! We knew when we started on this song-a-week adventure that not all songs would be completed within one week. This was one of those songs, but it was definitely worth it. We bent the one-week rule on this one and actually started recording this song last week. It proved to be more work than just one week would allow. I mean, it is Queen after all. And while we’re on the subject, let’s give it up for Freddie Mercury. When making this song, I can’t tell you how many times Norm exclaimed, “How did he do that?” when deconstructing parts of this song, given the recording and mixing limitations of 1976.

Again, we apologize for the delay, but we hope you will forgive us when you hear it.

All of the instrumentation in this song came from this ingeniously sequenced MIDI file.  It’s rare to find a MIDI file that is well done; this one was a spot-on representation of the original, complete with guitar solo.

One thing that really caught us off guard with this song is the content of the lyrics.  All this time we had been thinking that it was a very upbeat song about finding love, but it’s dark.  Quite dark indeed.  But you’d never know it without taking a closer listen.

This is a terrible day for such a great song; our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tsunami.

Dag girl, you sure know how to belt it out! And is that Norm I hear singing falsetto on the harmony?

I will certainly give it up for Freddie Mercury! And I will give it up for the 14 of you! You’re all awesome. I am recently realizing how incredible Queen and FM are–why didn’t I know this earlier!?!?!?! Thanks for giving me another excellent Queen song to get to know. :D

Seriously though, this might be my favorite K & N tune yet. Do I say that every week?
