My first recording:  "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", in 1976.  Through church choir and piano lessons, I soon mastered traditional music-making and moved into the avant garde.  I dabbled in sound collage and cutups in the early 80's, and produced a number of radio shows, rock concerts, and mini-series, including the now famous "The Ghost of Mr. T".  During this period I established Norman's Recording Studio.  My first experimental "multi-track" recording, "Cow On Main Street", employed the use of three tape recorders, a turntable and a siren, with a prominent sonic feature being a mayonnaise jar whacked with a pencil. Having exhausted all sonic possibilities by the age of fifteen, I turned my attention to clothes, my hair, girls, and being cool.  My interests then varied wildly over the next fifteen years.  Toured the world with Up With People. Got a Tascam 4-track, recorded Phish covers and goofy funk-rock.  Recorded a rock-opera with my brother Hugh.  Played bass with the Mole Hill Ramblers, a bluegrass trio. Discovered a DOS-based sampler called Fasttracker, which then led to a world of primitive but very effective audio shareware.  Set up a collaborative art space and home for Norman's Recording Studio.  Went to audio school and learned signal flow, engineer-speak, and tracked funk and latin through an SSL.  Moved to New York City, where I was a Studio Manger and Sound Designer at Harmonic Ranch.  During that time, I helped run Grand Deceiver Records with my associate Sherwin Jones, and managed the legendary Skratching Sheik. Recently I've gone back to whacking mayonnaise jars with pencils.  I'm currently living in Corvallis, Oregon with my lovely new wife and working in video/audio for YOU.
